Avis personnel
J’étais persuadée que ce film avait été réalisé dans les années 60-70. L’esthétique du film est juste époustouflant. J’ai eu l’impression de regarder un film de Jacques Demy (Peau d’Âne, en particulier). Rien que pour cela, j’ai adoré.
Après, il est difficile de donner mon avis sans parler de quelques scènes du film. Or tout l’intérêt de ce film repose sur le décalage entre nos attentes en tant que spectateurs et l’histoire qui est raconté. Parce que The Love Witch renvoie à une certaine époque, à un genre de film (certains critiques parlent de giallo, d’autres de films de la Hammer) et à un certain stéréotype de la sorcière amoureuse prête à tout, j’ai été surprise plus d’une fois. Ce film fait réfléchir tout en proposant un moment de divertissement.
Alors si vous avez deux heures devant vous, je vous invite fortement à découvrir ce film qui a tout d’un culte.

The story
Elaine is looking for her charming prince and she will do anything to get who she wants, even if she has to use magic or love potions.
My personal opinion
I was convinced that this film was from the 60s or 70s. The aesthetics is just astonishing. I had under the impression of watching a film directed by Jacques Demy (especially, Donkey Skin). For that reason alone, I loved it.
It is difficult to give my personal opinion without talking about specific scenes. But, the main point of this film lies on the discrepancy between the viewer’s expectations and the story that is told. Because The Love Witch refers to a specific time, to a specific film genre (some critics talk about giallo, others about Hammer productions) and to a stereotype of the desperate loving witch, I was surprised more than once. This film invites you to think but it also offers a moment of good entertainment.
So if you have two hours ahead, I strongly invite you to discover this film that has everything of a cult.
